One leaf, one movement
An up-and-over door is a single rigid leaf. As it opens, the bottom edge swings outwards, the top moves inwards, and the whole leaf ends up lying flat under the ceiling.
While it opens, the lower part of the leaf reaches out in front of the garage. That space has to stay clear: a car cannot stand right in front of the door, and the ground must not rise towards it.
Who it suits, and who it doesn't
The right door is the one that fits the garage. So we also say when another type is the better choice.
A good choice if
- there is always clear space in front of the garage;
- the ground in front of the door is level;
- you need a door for a detached, unheated garage or a garage in a row;
- you are looking for a door with a simple construction;
- you want to choose between an insulated and an uninsulated version.
Choose another type if
- your driveway is short, or a car usually stands in front of the door;
- the driveway rises or falls towards the garage;
- the garage opens onto a pavement, a narrow street or a shared yard.
In these cases a sectional garage door is the better choice.

Five measurements for an accurate quote
A tape measure and ten minutes are enough. The door is built to the confirmed dimensions.
- Width: between the two sides of the opening, at the finished wall surfaces.
- Height: from the finished floor to the top of the opening.
- Headroom: from the top of the opening to the ceiling.
- Side room: from the edge of the opening to the side wall, on both sides.
- Depth: from the opening to the back wall of the garage.
